Sam Nolan joined the Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse coaching staff in August of 2018.
Nolan rounded out a five-year playing career at UMBC in 2017 before joining the La Salle coaching staff for the 2018 campaign.
Nolan, a two-year team captain at UMBC, registered 117 goals, 73 assists and 190 points during her time with the Retrievers. The Fallston, Maryland native finished her career as the program's all-time leader in assists, and ranks third in career points.
The attacker was named First Team All-America East in each of her final two years at UMBC, combining for 83 goals, 54 assists and 137 points in the pair of seasons. During her senior campaign, she tallied career highs in all three scoring categories and led her squad to an 11-6 overall record and a semifinal appearance in the America East Playoffs.
Nolan became an assistant coach at La Salle, where she was the offensive coordinator for one year. In her only year she coached two attackers to score 46 goals each. The two attackers finished with 50 or more points each to lead the Explorers. One of the attackers was named to both the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and the All-Rookie Team, while a freshman midfielder was named to All-Rookie Team as well.
Nolan then joined the Mount’s coaching staff in 2018 and helped them reach the NEC playoffs. She had two players named to All-NEC Second Team and two players named to All-NEC Rookie Team in her first year. In 2019, the Mountaineers went undefeated in NEC play to win the regular season championship and reached the NEC Championship for the first time since 2012. The Mount ranked 20th in the country in offense averaging 14.11 goals per game. Nolan helped the Mount collect three major awards including NEC Offensive Player of the Year, NEC Defensive Player of the Year, and NEC Rookie of the Year.
In 2021, Nolan helped the Mountaineers have the number 14th ranked offense in the country scoring 15.06 goals a game. The Mount had a program record 14 game winning streak and won the regular season championship. She helped the Mountaineers win the NEC Championship over Wagner 9-8 in overtime to win the Mount’s first NEC Championship since 2005. The Mount took home the NEC Offensive Player of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight time.
Nolan is currently coaching the Renegades 2023 in Frederick and the Maryland Select 2023.
Beyond the field, Nolan earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology in 2016 from UMBC then returned for her fifth year and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in media and communications in 2017. She also worked as an intern in the UMBC athletic communications department, where she helped with social media development, sports production and live streaming. She also interned with UMBC's marketing department to assist with ticket and merchandise sales as well as gameday promotions. She earned her master’s in sports management from Mount St. Mary’s in the fall of 2020.
